Business Efficiency Analysis

Mitch Henderson

Black Belt Consulting

All our organizations want and need to reduce wasted time and money and foster team growth to sustain mission performance. My job as Black Belt Consulting is to help you and your teams innovate, continually improve, and strive towards quality so you can keep satisfying the customer, meet goals, and stay ahead of the competition. Thus, a winning business operation!

So who is Mitch Henderson? Well, since 2013 I’ve lived in a 1760 Cape off the bike path in Warren with my wife Jane, an-ex Social Worker. My credentials are:

  • Naval Academy graduate and ex-submarine officer
  • Masters degree in Management Science and
  • Certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
  • I am a “old-timer” with a full bag of tools sharpened as an investment analyst; systems, safety, and industrial engineer; naval tactician; college professor; R&D firm principal analyst, and most important, as a Systems Re-designer in our local VA Medical Center. Many of these jobs involved measuring performance, applying Lean and other techniques to develop alternative approaches and Making It Happen through good project management. But good ideas need to be sustained: all on the team need to “be onboard” so the new concepts flourish. Teams need to know how to huddle and share ideas freely and quickly in a disciplined way. Training plans may need polishing and new metrics developed and used.

I have been fortunate to have been on some great teams myself. First, as a naval officer on a nuclear submarine recognized as the best on the East coast, a ship led by a man who became Superintendent of the Naval Academy and later relieved Admiral Rickover, father of the nuclear Navy. Then as a principal analyst and Department manager at a R&D firm that grew from 30 to 1600 in 15 years. And finally, 10 years in Rhode Island with the VA. The big lessons learned were all about teamwork, service, leadership, persistence, courage, and learning from one’s mistakes. Mistakes? Oh, I have made plenty but now I can call it experience!

I look forward to meeting leaders like you in manufacturing, healthcare, retail, government or the military who are interested in using proven tools to strive towards perfection. Nothing can be more fun than to work together to solve problems that make the customer happy, and then celebrate the successes that follow!
