Event Description: Drawing/Painting Portraits with Tiago Finato Wednesdays, April 3rd - May 8th | 10:00 am- 1:00 pm | 6 weeks $250 BAM Members | $260 Non-Members Advance your drawing/painting skills to the next level as you develop the right technique and sensitivity to create a beautiful portrait. We’ll be looking at drawing/painting strategies used by leading contemporary portrait artists today as well as visit some of the old master’s techniques. Methods: This is a studio class designed by demonstration, studio-work and individual development format. All assignments promote strong perceptual, technical, and analytical skills. In class, students will begin by drawing from a photograph, transition into painting from the white cast and finally working from a live model using a limited color pallet. Objective: This class is to explore, experiment, and become familiar with the representational approach to portraiture. Students will understand and successfully implement formal elements of art such as form, value, and color into a two-dimensional format. Instructor Biography: Tiago Finato moved to the United States from Brazil in the year 2000 to further his research in the field of painting. First trained in the 19th century French academic style, Tiago went on to earn a BFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and an MFA from New Mexico State University. In his work, Tiago explores the overlap between the labor of contemporary art and the labor of the working class. His current body of work narrates a scenario where the subject is caught between these two conflicting ideologies, those of a manual laborer and a fine artist. Finato has exhibited his work throughout the United States, Spain and Brazil.
