Event Description: Linden Place Museum and The Bristol Historical and Preservation Society are co-hosting a lecture by archivist Nancy Kougeas titled “The Last Voyage of the Slave Ship Charlotte: Diaries of an Archivist” in the Linden Place ballroom on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2:30 PM. Nancy Kougeas, a Rhode Island Council for the Humanities EnRICHment speaker, will talk about "The Charlotte," a Rhode Island based slave ship registered in Bristol. It sailed between 1804 and 1805. Nancy Kougeas' archival work in Bristol illuminates the fascinating story of one Rhode Island-based slave ship, the ship's captain, and the era in which slavery played a major role in Rhode Island's economy. This lecture is free and open to the public.
